Standing Feet First Entry

Scoring Rubric

The student will begin by standing at the edge of the pool where the depth of the water is over the student's head. The student will pause before entering to check for safety and identify a location to exit. Then, the student will step or jump from the pool edge into the water feet first. To complete the skill, the student will return their head above the surface and take a breath.

Exhibits any of the following:

❌ Does not attempt to enter the water

❌ Does not enter the water from a standing position

❌ Needs assistance to be comfortable entering from a standing position

✅ Enters water feet first from a standing position

Exhibits any of the following:

❌ Does not check it is safe to enter, or identity a exit location, before entering

❌ Needs assistance to return to the surface to breathe

Performs all of the following:

✅ Checks that it is safe to enter before entering

✅ Identifies a location to exit before entering

✅ Enters water feet first from a standing position

✅ Returns to surface and can breathe comfortably
