Scoring Rules
Students must remain at the surface, stay in one location, and be able to breathe for this assessment, but they may use a float, tread, or combination of the two skills.
To begin, students must independently move into a self-supported position on their back or vertically on their own. As soon as the student is floating or treading, begin timing how long they are performing a float and/or tread. Stop timing once any of the assessment rules are broken.
Record a solid dash ( - ) if the student will not attempt the Stationary Skills assessment
Time how long the student performs the skill until they exhibit any of the following
Requires assistance or becomes unsafe
Has excessive lateral or directional movement (swimming VS floating or treading)
Touches or receives help from an instructor
Touches the pool bottom, wall, a stationary object, or flotation aid
Has their face mostly below the surface
Does not breathe in a controlled and regular manner
Reaches the maximum time of 120 seconds (2 minuets)
