Students must remain at the surface, stay in one location, and be able to breathe for this assessment, but they may use a float, tread, or combination of the two skills.

To begin, students must independently move into a self-supported position on their back or vertically on their own. As soon as the student is floating or treading, begin timing how long they are performing a float and/or tread. Stop timing once any of the assessment rules are broken.

Record a solid dash ( - ) if the student will not attempt the Stationary Skills assessment
